Street Vendors Hope to Legalize Vending on City Sidewalks
Two members of the L.A. City Council announced a plan Wednesday to legalize street vending.
Advocates for the motion to register food trucks and sidewalk vending say it is not fair for street vendors to sell without paying rent or taxes.
Selling on the street violates city code.
Right now vendors risk paying fines, having their equipment stolen, or facing incarceration under current conditions.
Councilman Jose Huizar, representing East L.A., and Councilman Curren Price, representing South L.A., are looking into a study to determine how legalization in the city can be best implemented.
