More Than 1,400 Unaccounted People Buried

Over a thousand unclaimed bodies were buried in a mass grave Wednesday morning.

Los Angeles County buried over a thousand unclaimed bodies Wednesday morning as part of an annual ritual.

With a simple ceremony and mass, 1,464 people were buried in a single grave at Evergreen Memorial Park in Boyle Heights. These remains were never claimed by loved ones.

The County generally holds the cremated remains for about two years before burial.

This mass burial happens every year. Most of the ashes are of homeless people or those of families who could not afford to bury or cremate them.
