LA Police Commission Discusses Use of Force

The commission will now review an officer's actions to fire his or her weapon in the moments leading up to the incident, deciding whether or not the use of force is warranted.

The city of Los Angeles has decided to change the way police use of force incidents are investigated.

The Los Angeles Police Commission met Tuesday and voted to allow investigators to review decisions made by officers in the moments leading up to any use of force incident. Those actions were considered in the past, but now their review is officially part of the process.

LAPD Chief Charlie Beck, who supports the measure, feels the policy change will enhance the way shootings and other serious uses of force cases are examined.
