Valentines Day 2014: Discount Flowers, Free Beer & Speed Dating
The 14th day of February has arrived once again, and to commemorate Valentine's Day, there's no more traditional way than flowers.
Since florists are charging a premium, wholesalers say to go straight to the source: at the California Flower Market, owner Mark Chathoff, shown above, says a bundle of 25 roses will cost between $18 and $20.
If flowers aren't your style, check out these other options:
Speed Dating on the Metro
Metro is offering speed dating on the red line during Friday's lunch hour. From 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., riders (over the age of 18) will get to mix and mingle as the subway cruises through subterranean Los Angeles. Participating is free - excluding the requisite trip fare - and riders must have a valid ID. For more information, visit metro.net/valentinesday.
Free Pitchers at Anti-Valentine's Day Party
Bludso's Bar-&-Cu in Hollywood is offering free pitchers of beer to parties of four or more who make a reservation. Pair up the brews with Bludso's signature barbeque and commemorate cupid by watching the Olympics with some smoked ribs.
Cemetery Screening of Harold & Maude
What better way to usher in the holiday of love by watching Harold and Maude at Long Beach's Sunnyside Cemetery? The 1971 film classic - complete with Cat Stevens' hits as the score - will be shown at 7:30 p.m. by the Long Beach Cinematheque, in partnership with Lola's Mexican Cuisine. Tickets are available here.
