Hundreds Come out for Burbank Veterans Job Fair

More than 250 veterans were in Burbank for an employment opportunity.

Burbank held its second annual Veterans Job Fair Thursday to help local veterans find work.

Around 250 applicants came to the fair, and many of them said the experience was rewarding.

There were 55 businesses there hoping to reach out to workers. Companies like Warner Bros., Southwest Airlines, and Whole Foods came out to find a wider range of applicants for their workforce.

The event was sponsored by the Burbank Workforce Connection, the California Employment Development Department and the Verdugo Jobs Center.

April Moreno, who works in the Management Services department for the city of Burbank, said the event was a big success.

Some veterans and businesses said it was one of the best veterans job fairs they had been to.

"I submitted my resume and they were all looking like they are going to hire," said veteran Edward Chavez, "so I was really lucky to come in today."

Businesses also said the fair let them hire workers that fit what the companies were looking for.

"We've been focusing on hiring veterans, families of veterans, and really kind of any diversed team member base that we can find, so that's kind of our focus right now," said Samantha Marcus, who works in Whole Foods' Southern Pacific recruiting department.

Many businesses said they would contact the applicants after the veterans complete an online portion of the application process.
