USC Commemorates Cesar Chavez Day

USC's El Centro Chicano recognizes the accomplishments of Cesar Chavez.

Governor Jerry Brown declared Monday Cesar Chavez Day in the state of California.

California joins Colorado and Texas as the states that recognize Cesar Chavez Day. Los Angeles city and state offices were closed Monday to observe this holiday.

Cesar Chavez Day falls on Chavez's birthday. Chavez would have been 86 years old this year.

He is rememered for his commitment to social justice and respect for human dignity. Many of his supporters viewed Chavez as a pillar of hope for the plight of oppressed and marginalized groups of people.
