Chipotle Says California Drought May Cause Guacamole Shortage

Chipotle may "temporarily suspend" guacamole from the menu.

Chipotle announced that it might have to temporarily suspend items from its menu if climate change gets worse.

In its annual report, Chipotle classified drought and global warming as some of the business risks the company faces.

Global climate change could affect the price or availability of some of its products, like guacamole and salsa, according to the company. Rather than charge customers more for their condiments, Chipotle says it would rather "temporarily suspend" menu items.

Chipotle said it uses 97,000 of avocados a day, but a possible shortage of produce is nothing more than a "routine risk disclosure."

Jan DeLyser, the Vice President of Marketing for the Californai Avocado Commission, said there's nothing to worry about because there isn't an avocado shortage.
