La Habra Residents Deal with Earthquake Aftermath
Surrounding communities Brea and Diamond Bar are also dealing with damages from Friday night's 5.1 magnitude earthquake that hit La Habra.
Diamond Bar resident Jessica Vargas said she wasn't prepared for the quake. She was horrified when she saw the damagesto her home.
Cal-Tech seismologiest Kate Hutton said all earthquakes serve as a warning or drill to remind ourselves to be prepared for natural disasters.
While most residents and businesses have cleaned up the debris from Friday's quake, Fanning Elementary School's main building remains closed due to poor air quality.
The closure will affect more than 300 students in Brea. The school's principal, Susan Metcalf, said that school is canceled while they wait on final reports for the air quality in the main school building.
Metcalf said the foundation of the school was shaken, exposing asbestos. The school will remain closed until an air quality management team approves a cleanup plan. The main building will remain closed for the entire week.
