Final Countdown to Covered California Deadline

Wellness centers attempt to spread health insurance to residents of L.A. County.

White House Senior Advisor, Valerie Jarret, and L.A. County Supervisor, Mark Ridley-Thomas, were both at the opening of the new St. John's Health and Wellness campus in South Los Angeles.

On the fourth anniversary of the Affordable Care Act, Jarrett and Ridley-Thomas stressed the importance of the opening. They said the county of Los Angeles is the largest region in the nation with uninsured patients.

After the ceremony, benefit counselors helped people sign up for either Covered California or Medi-Cal.

This year, more than 10-thousand people have enrolled in healthcare at St. John's. Residents of South L.A. who enrolled during the event said the process was much easier than they had imagined.

There were also stations with cooking demonstrations and people providing ideas for healthy living.

There will be benefit counselors at all St. John's centers every day to help people receive health insurance even after the March 31 deadline.
