Memorial Held for Civil Rights Leader Celes King IV
At a memorial service Tuesday in South Los Angeles rose petals lay scattered on a picture of Celes King IV, 70, a community and civil rights activist.
King IV died on March 15 after complications from a heart attack in San Diego.
He followed in his father's footsteps, Celes King III, who was also a black civil rights activist. King III helped organize the Martin Luther King Kingdom Day Parade. He also helped rename the street Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in South Los Angeles.
Adrian Dove, chairman of the Congress of Racial Equality, and others attended and spoke at King IV's memorial at the Promenade of Prominence Walk of Fame.
