Oscar Telecasts Archived at USC

Fifty years of Oscars glory is being preserved by the USC Digital Repository.

Fifty years of Oscar telecasts will soon get a high-tech makeover by the USC Digital Repository.

"We have a robotic arm load in the tapes and migrate the tapes to the computer," said Ryan Fenton-Straus from the USC Digital Repository.

Once converted, the files are preserved for researchers and future generations to view.

"What's really great about it is that the Acadamy shows are worth a huge amount of money commercially and there are resources to pay to preserve them," said Critical Studies Professor Mitchell Bloc.
