Red Flag Warning Brings New Concerns

The warning was in effect in most of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties until 6 p.m.

High winds, intense heat and dry conditions had fire fighters on high alert all day with a red flag warning.

The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning in most of Los Angeles and Ventura County Wednesday.

"I guess because we had the fire... so close to our homes that's concerning," said Glendora resident Kara Gordon whose front yard was nearly swallowed by the Glendora fire in January.

Gordon said that fire burned the brush, eventually becoming a good thing for future fires.

"Because the hills had all burned behind up, I'm not as concerned," said Gordon. "There's nothing left to burn."

While Glendora residents aren't as concerned with hot, dry, windy conditions, the LA County Fire Department said there is cause for concern in L.A. County. They said LA residents can do a few things to be prepared.

"Take a lot of fluids in, stay hydrated, stay in sheltered area, stay in air-conditioned [areas], if possible," said LAFD's Keith Mora.

Pasadena handled the red flag warning in a different way, issuing parking restrictions.

"Many years ago, fire engines and fire trucks were a lot smaller," said Pasadena Fire Department's Lisa Derderian. "The emergency equipment has grown in size, and these streets are still narrow. That's an issue. If we have to get up these streets to fight fires, there's no room for residents to get down these streets and evacuate."

LA Fire suggests clearing any brush close to residents' homes, and drinking lots of water, during a red flag alert.
