Shell Eco-Marathon Challenges Students

Students from five L.A. schools compete to promote energy efficiency on the road.

Shell hosted a going-away party on Monday for local student teams making their way to Texas as part of Shell Eco-Marathon America. The competition, taking place in Houston, challenged students to push the boundaries of energy efficiency on the road and sought to find the car which can travel the farthest using the least amount of energy.

Students from Loyola Marymount University, East Los Angeles College, Citrus College, John Glenn High School and UCLA unveiled their vehicles and performed on-site test drives on Monday. The most recent winner achieved nearly 4,000 miles per gallon.
