Edward Snowden Speaks at SXSW
Edward Snowden spoke via webcam Monday at a tech conference as a part of the South by Southwest Interactive Festival in Austin, Texas. Speaking via teleconference from Russia, Snowden said he had no regrets about his decision to leak the NSA documents that showed evidence of the intelligence agency's monitoring of Americans' phone and Internet behavior in the name of national security.
"South by Southwest and the tech community, the people in the room in Austin, they're the folks who can fix this," said Snowden. "There's a political response that needs to occur, but there's also a tech response that needs to occur."
USC Law Professor, Edwin M. Smith, commented on Snowden's speech. In Smith's opinion, Snowden decided to speak to the SXSW audience, because they were largely comprised of Libertarian individuals. This group is generally opposed to government surveillance through telecommunication outlets.
