US Imposes Visa Restrictions on Russian Officals

The U.S. took a stand against Russian intervention in Ukraine and announced new visa restrictions on certain Russian officials

The Obama administration set forth an executive order that imposes visa restrictions on Russian and other opponents of the new Ukraine government on Thursday.

The restrictions target an unidentified number of people that the U.S. Government believes are threatening Ukraine sovereignty. The announcement comes during Secretary of State John Kerry's meeting in Rome with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Following Russian intervention in Ukraine's Crimea region, the U.S. also plans to implement financial sanctions.

"This should send a strong message," said a senior administration offical in a conference call, "that we intend to impose costs on Russia for this intervention. The situation, of course, could escalate further if we see actions into Eastern Ukraine."
