Amazon Unveils TV Streaming Device
Amazon introduced a $99 streaming device, Fire TV, on Wednesday that will stream content from Netflix and Hulu onto TV sets.
Fire TV will also offer Amazon's growing repertoire of original programming and video games.
The set-top box will compete with other streaming devices like Roku, Chromecast and Apple TV.
At the moment, Apple TV, which is also priced at $99, offers some of the same services and allows users to play content from their iPhone, iPad or iPod using the set-top box.
Peter Larsen, vice president of Amazon's Kindle unit, said Fire TV can predict what viewers want to watch and have it ready to play. Among other features, it will also be able to display Internet Movie Database (IMDB) information when actors appear on the screen.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Amazon's shares remained flat.
