Boston Pays Tribute a Year after Bombings

Vice President Joe Biden attended the tribute and emphasized the strength of the people of Boston and the U.S.

One year ago, a series of bombs at the Boston Marathon finish line shook the nation. Hundreds gathered Tuesday in Boston to honor those affected by the incident.

The attack left three dead and more than 260 wounded. Survivors spoke about the lasting impact of the event. First responders, survivors, Mayor Marty Walsh, and Governor Deval Patrick were present at Tuesday's tribute to honor the memory of those who lost their lives.

President Obama released a statement:

"We send our thoughts and prayers to those still struggling to recover. Today we recognize the incredible courage and leadership of so many Bostonians in the wake of unspeakable tragedy. And we offer our deepest gratitude to the courageous firefighters, police officers, medical professionals, runners and spectators who, in an instant, displayed the spirit Boston was built on- preserverance, freedom and love."

One USC student from Boston said his father was on his way to the finish line as the bombs went off, and it was a matter of just a few minutes and a few miles that saved his life.

Another USC student from Boston said this tragedy has made the city and our nation stronger.

The city of Boston will gather again at 2014's marathon next Monday, April 21.
