Jail Violence Escalates in Los Angeles
A new report shows violence in Los Angeles jails has escalated over the past year.
Use of force incidents involving jail deputies has increased by nine percent.
In response, the County Board of Supervisors unveiled new recommendations Tuesday on how to reduce fighting between inmates and deputies. They're proposing a pilot program to bring body scanners to LA jails.
Supporters of this plan say scanning will eliminate the need for strip searches and cavity searches, which are known to spark violence.
The assistant sheriff who runs the county's jail said hazing among new deputies has also contributed to the increase in violence.
