L.A.C.E.S. Shines in A.P. Exams
California Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson visited the Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies (L.A.C.E.S.) on Thursday to celebrate the school's commitment to academic excellence.
The visit was part of the "California A.P. Excellence Tour 2014," in which administrators honor public schools across California who have shown excellence in the Advanced Placement (A.P.) exams.
L.A.C.E.S. received the honor for excelling in more than 25 A.P. subject tests.
"I wish I could visit schools more often," said Torlakson, "but I'm busy working on getting more money in the budget to give our schools the technology they need to excel."
In California, 40.6% of the class of 2013 took an A.P. test, compared to 25.3% in the class of 2003.
Nearly 27% of California students earned at least a passing score of 3, out of a possible five, on the exams in 2013. California ranks sixth among the 17 states to report passage rates above the national average of 20.1% on these tests.
