Study: Processed Foods Could Decrease Motivation and Focus

One nutrition expert said this study does not lead to a conclusion on humans.

A study by UCLA scientists found that processed foods could cause a loss in motivation and focus.

Researchers fed one group of rats a "healthy" diet and another a "junk food" diet. They found that after six months, the rats with a diet high in simple carbohydrates were less likely to engage in physical activity for a reward.

Nutrition Expert Roger Clemens said this study does not lead to a conclusion on humans.

For the study, the rats were taught to press a lever to access a spoonful of sugar water as a reward.
