Supreme Court Declines Free Speech in Gay Marriage Case
The U.S. Supreme Court found that an Albuquerque-based photography company could not claim free speech rights for refusing to photograph a same-sex commitment ceremony. This means an August 2013 New Mexico Court decision against the company remains intact.
A New Mexico court found that Elane Photography, owned by Christians who oppose gay marriage, violated the New Mexico Human Rights Act, which bans discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.
Kelby Harrison, USC LGBT Resource Center Director, said the U.S. Supreme Court commented on the decision.
