Torrance Responds to Toyota Move

Torrance reacts to Toyota jobs moving out of California.

Toyota confirmed Monday that it will be moving its national headquarters from Torrance to Plano, Texas. The company's headquarters have been located in Torrance for more than 30 years. Toyota will invest more than $300 million on a new facility and give relocation packages to at least 1,000 employees as part of the move.

According to Toyota's CEO for the North American region, Jim Lentz, "With our major North American business affiliates and leaders together in one location for the first time, we will be better equipped to speed decision making, share best practices and leverage the combined strength of our employees."

Torrance councilmembers hope that another major corporation will take Toyota's place in Torrance soon.
