'Tour de UCLA' Celebrates National Public Health Week

UCLA attempts to increase the "bikeability" of its campus.

As part of National Public Health Week, students and faculty at the Fielding School of Public Health hosted the first ever "Tour de UCLA," a biking excursion in which they invited people in the community to experience the "bikeability" of UCLA's campus.

Supporters say biking has become an integrated part of Bruin life. UCLA is attempting to establish itself as the most bikeable urban campus in the United States. But people who fear biking in the streets of Los Angeles said they don't feel safe amongst the dense packs of cars.

In many cases, bikers in the Los Angeles area faced danger in the absence of bike lanes. UCLA is working to develop more green bike lanes, reduce the speed limit on campus, and provide more resources for bicycle safety.
