USC Head Football Coach Steve Sarkisian Offers His Tips for Success

The USC Trojans' head football coach spoke to the student body for the first time since he was hired.

USC head football coach Steve Sarkisian addressed USC students for the first time.

Sarkisian shared his story as part of the Delta Gamma event "Lectureship in Values and Ethics." Sarkisian talked about starting off as a graduate assistant for Pete Carroll in 2001, and eventually becoming the quarterbacks coach at San Diego State University shortly after that.

"'Pete [Carroll] asked me 'What do you want...?' and I jokingly said, but I really meant it, 'I want your job,'" said Sarkisian.

The event at Town and Gown was open to the public, and USC wide receiver Nelson Agholor was in the crowd.

Sarkisian also offered his advice for achieving success.

"Don't worry about the 'how,' just focus on what you want to become and continually talk about it," he said.

He also talked about the direction he's taking USC football in.

"We are forward thinkers. USC Football is forward thinking. We are thinking about the future like it is the present," he said.

Steve Sarkisian will make his debut as head coach when the Trojans kick off the 2014 football season on August 30th against Fresno State.
