USC Women's Lacrosse to Play at Wrigley Field on Saturday
USC women's lacrosse will wind down its regular season by playing in the first-ever college lacrosse game at Wrigley Field.
The Women of Troy will face Northwestern on Saturday night at the Chicago Cubs' stadium, which just celebrated its 100th birthday. The Wildcats are ranked No. 5 in the nation, according to the IWLCA coaches' poll.
"Obviously, it's a really awesome venue to be able to play in," said USC sophomore goalie Liz Shaeffer. "But we're trying to keep it like every other game and just focus on our game plan and get after it."
USC played Northwestern the program's inaugural game last season, facing the Wildcats at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The Wildcats have won seven NCAA championships, and Northwestern is the alma mater of USC head coach Lindsey Munday.
"We're really grateful. We're excited about the opportunity," Munday said. "Friday, we'll get a chance to really soak it in, and then Saturday is game time."
The Women of Troy have already qualified for the MPSF Tournament after upsetting No. 13 Stanford last Sunday with an 11-10 win, the program's first-ever victory against a ranked opponent. Shaeffer became the first Trojan to win MPSF Defensive Player of the Week, thanks to her eight saves and two forces turnovers against the Cardinal.
Fans can watch USC face Northwestern on the Big Ten Network at 5 p.m. Pacific Time on Saturday. The Women of Troy close out their regular season Sunday at Marquette.
