Sarkisian "If the Time's Right to Bring Him Back, We Will"
USC senior cornerback Josh Shaw has captivated the country this week with the mysterious circumstances surrounding his sprained ankles. After being suspeneded indefinitely for lying about sustaining the injuries rescuing his nephew, first year head coach Steve Sarkisian addressed the possibility of the captain making a return to the team.
"Obviously, there's some other things that need to take place," said Sarkisian. "In the meantime, he needs to take care of his health and take care of himself. When the times right--if the times right--to bring him back, we will."
Although feeling tricked by Shaw, Sarkisian acknowledges that he and USC may have prematurely released the original statement.
"The type of character that Josh has showed us previously, I felt no reason not to support him," said Sarkisian. "Again, we regret that we released that article. It has as much to do with me as it does with anyone else. Moving forward we will be a little bit more patient."
Despite the frenzy that the mid-first round NFL prospect has generated for the USC football program, Sarkisian understands the necessary steps to deal with Shaw both on, and off, the field.
"We will always continue to support Josh in his effort. He's a Trojan. He made a mistake, which kids make, but we have to be here for him and help him get better."
Sarkisian and the rest of the No. 15 Trojans will kick-off their season with a home opener against Fresno State at 4:30 this Saturday.
