Residents Speak out About Possible L.A.P.D. Drones

The possibility of drones within the L.A.P.D. has residents worried.

Members of the Stop L.A.P.D. Spying Coalition, Drone-Free L.A.P.D. and "No Drones, LA!" campaigns all gathered on the south steps of City Hall to express their frustration with the city's recent decision to allow LAPD to implement limited use of drone technology by law enforcement officials.

Protesters argued the state bill Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti signed last week in support of the drones will invade public privacy.

LAPD pointed out that the two drones will be held by a separate law enforcement agency where they will stay until the public hearings are held sometime next year.

Some drone advocates say the footage the drones would capture will only be held until next year, while others argue there's no guarantee that measure will stay in place.

Still, supporters of the anti-drone groups argue it is in the city's best interest to keep with their campaign, Drone-Free LAPD.
