A Look at the World's Largest Airborne Law Enforcement Agency
It's been 58 years since it was founded, and now the Los Angeles Air Support team can say it has 18 helicopters circling the skies, making it the largest airborne law enforcement operation in the world.
ATVN's Ani Ucar spent a day with LAPD Air Support Officer Stuart Lomax, who has been with the Los Angeles Division for roughly ten years. He says that he’s had about 2,200 hours of flight time patrolling the city.
Lomax says that their “job is to paint a picture” for the other officers on the ground since they are able to “see all the stuff that’s happening” from above.
The Air Support team is responsible for spotting anything that looks suspicious on the ground and making sure other agencies are aware of the issues.
