Apple CEO Tim Cook Comes Out As Gay

Apple's CEO Tim Cook reveals he is gay in an essay written for Bloomberg Businessweek.

On Thursday morning, Apple's CEO Timothy Cook came out as gay through an essay published on Bloomberg Businessweek. While Cook has never denied his sexuality, he has never confirmed it either. Known to be one who values his privacy, Cook admitted that it was difficult for him to make his announcement to the world.

In the essay, the leader said that he made the announcement to help those who have not been as fortunate as he has been in the professional and public worlds. Although America has made advancements towards same sex marriage, Cook said that there are still those who are still struggling - employees who have been fired, tenants who have been evicted and those who have been banned from visiting their sick partners, all because of their sexuality.

"So if hearing that the CEO of Apple is gay can help someone struggling come to terms with who he or she is, or bring comfort to anyone who feels alone, or inspire people to insist on their equality, then it's worth the trade-off with my own privacy," Cook wrote.

Cook hopes that the public will not focus on his sexuality, race or gender, but rather on other qualities that make him who he is. Aside from the CEO of a tech giant, he is also "an engineer, an uncle, a nature lover, a fitness nut, a son of the South, a sports fanatic, and many other things."

Cook said that Apple is his life's work and he will work to be the best CEO he can be for the company. The leader said that striving to be the best is what not only his employees, but also shareholders, customers and and supplier partners deserve. Cook described Apple as a company that has been advocating human rights and equality for all; he will continue to fight for these rights until his "toes point up."
