According to Fireball Whisky’s website, the popular cinnamon-flavored whisky has been recalled in Sweden, Finland and Norway. The whisky contains the ingredient propylene glycol, a preservative which isn’t approved in Europe in the same level as it is in the U.S. Although the FDA says propylene glycol is safe to ingest in the small quantities found in food and drinks, if consumed in excess it could cause problems like kidney damage.

The company says that the recall only applies to a few particular batches in three European countries, which were supposed to be sold in the U.S. and that the ingredient is regularly used and FDA approved.

The company says the drink is perfectly safe and that some people are confusing industrial grade propylene glycol, which is found in some forms of antifreeze, with food grade propylene glycol.
