Top LAUSD School Celebrates New Home

A high-performing elementary school in the Los Angeles Unified School District finally has a permanent location.

KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) Empower Academy, located at 8466 South Figueroa Street, just moved into a new site after four years at temporary sites. The grand opening took place October 22nd.

The charter school currently has nearly six hundred students ranging from kindergarten to fourth grade. It primarily serves students from low-income neighborhoods, and they are performing exceptionally well. In 2013, KIPP Empower Academy’s performance index was significantly higher than the Los Angeles Unified School District average.

“We want to work in communities that are under resourced. Really just making sure we’re providing another high quality educational option for our students. Our kids deserve the best and we’re trying our hardest to make sure they have the opportunity to a high quality education,” said Principal of KIPP Empower Academy Neela Parasnis.

KIPP is a nonprofit organization that runs 162 schools in 20 states and serves 58,000 students.
