LAPD and Students Complete "Mission Possible" for Autism Awareness

Los Angeles police officers and deputies joined forces with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder to complete “Mission Possible”.

More than one hundred Los Angeles police officers and deputies joined forces Thursday in Los Angeles with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder to complete “Mission Possible,” an autism awareness event.

The one hundred LAUSD students with Autism Spectrum Disorder were paired with officers at four interactive safety stations.

The teams rode in police vehicles and ambulances to familiarize the students with the equipment and help them overcome fears about police.

The Autism Society of Los Angeles and the LAPD partnered to create the “Mission Possible” Autism event.

The goals are to better prepare both groups for possible encounters with one another and forge a better relationship.
