Conference Promotes Awareness of Taboo Topics
Richard Zaldivar, the Executive Director of The Wall Las Memorias Project, has made it his goal to free HIV/AIDS of its stigma within Los Angeles’s Latino community.
The Wall Las Memorias Project is a non-profit organization that intends to promote wellness and prevent illness among Latino populations affected by HIV/AIDS.
Zalidivar spoke of the relationship between religion, HIV/AIDS education, and social justice at The Eighth Annual Conference on Latinos, Faith, Culture, HIV and Mental Health Monday Morning.
Above all, Zaldivar said he encourages the Hispanic community to engage in discussion about sexuality, as it is the best way to break the barrier and desensitize the subject of HIV/AIDS. hopes that this will enable members of the community to stay informed and, consequently, remain in good health.
“I believe we all have a reason for being born in this world, and mine is to be able to provide as much access to other people about information that may be in front of me,” said Zaldivar to ATVN.
Raymond Jimenez, the Prevention Training Specialist at The AIDS Project Los Angeles, said these annual conferences function as a source for agencies. Speakers and attendees share a common goal: to raise awareness through conversation.
