LAX Police Officers Call for Bigger Presence at the Airport
Members of an LAX airport union say the airport isn't as safe as it could be. As the one year anniversary of the shooting death of TSA officer Gerardo Hernandez nears on Nov. 1, the Los Angeles Airport Police Officers Association representatives say that not many security improvements have been made.
Union members say that one of the biggest issues at the airport is that emergency calls at LAX are received by the LAPD, not the airport police. They also said that resources are moved away from the airport police leaving officers less prepared to handle emergency situations.
On the other hand, LAX Airport Police Chief Partick Gannon says the officers are prepared to handle emergencies at LAX. Gannon says that the officers train each day on how to handle incidents like the shooting on Nov. 1.
