Nursing Summit Held at Cal State L.A.

Nursing students and healthcare professionals met at California State University L.A. today for a discussion on the field of nursing, how it's changing, and how to prepare for the future of the job.

Healthcare professionals and students attended the California Action Coalition Summit to discuss how nursing is advancing health care in California.

The summit was held on Thursday, at the California State University, Los Angeles.

California Action Coalition is an organization devoted to supporting the safety of nurses and helping them to prepare to handle crises.

“Students can gain a tremendous amount. First of all, there’s an opportunity to network with very seasoned and impressive leaders from around the state in this room. They also will hear information that, I think will pique their interest, in one direction or another,” said Mary Dickow, the statewide director for the California Action Coalition. ”So what students often do is they find something that excites them that they want to focus on, and they can join in our volunteer groups and work with us directly.”

The meeting featured both national and statewide updates, including the issues about the increase in the aging and ill population and how to prepare a better educated nursing workforce. It also focused on topics regarding leadership, diversity, and inter-professional education and collaboration.
