Statewide ShakeOut
Millions of people participated in the Great California Shakeout Thursday morning to prepare California communities for the next big earthquake.
More than 10 million Californians signed up to participate in the “Drop, Cover and Hold On” drill at 10:16 a.m. local time.
This year, the Office of Emergency Management selected Biola University and the City of La Mirada as the spotlight for the statewide drill.
A full-scale exercise to prepare for a magnitude-6.7 earthquake was conducted at the university, which also included a simulated aftershock at the city Emergency Operations Center.
Led by the Southern California Earthquake Center, USC held its own annual Trojan ShakeOut Drill to promote awareness on campus about what to do before, during and after an earthquake.
A team of Trojan ShakeOut Ambassadors assisted in spreading the word about the drill, sharing earthquake preparedness information and facilitating the “Drop, Cover and Hold On” drill in every building.
