Those present at the opening were the board of trustees, President Max Nikias, Dean Ernest Wilson and the director of the School of Journalism, Willow Bay. USC alum and MSNBC news anchor Alex Witt, faculty, students, and other distinguished guests were also present.
Wallis Annenberg Hall incorporates all platforms of media including television, radio, print, and digital media convergin and working together cohesively.
At the grand opening, Ms. Wallis Annenberg said that the building was constructed with the students in mind.
"This is your playground. Your place to take risks," said Annenberg. "USC already has the second largest newsroom in Los Angeles, and now it has what I believe to be the best."
The grand opening of the new Annenberg building is a reminder how a new chapter of communications and journalism is growing quickly in a technology driven society. Students in the new building are exposed to a state-of-the-art media center, lecture halls, and more than 100 hotspots allowing for zero wifi dead zones.
To cap off the celebration on Wednesday President Nikias, Dean Wilson, Alex Witt and Ms. Wallis Annenberg finalized the grand opening by the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon while confetti flew and the Trojan Marching Band played.
The massive "media wall" looming over the lobby is massive mistake. Bright, loud, obnoxious and distracting. At the very least turn off the audio playing....
It's a shame because the interior architecture with the surrounding staircase was beautiful as is..
