Multiple Arrests Made in Santa Ana Hit-And-Run
Santa Ana residents were in mourning Monday following the loss of three 13-year-old girls after they were killed in a hit-and-run collision over the weekend.
According to the Santa Ana Police Department, a 31-year-old man was arrested Sunday morning at a Motel 6 in Stanton, California for the crime.
Police say the man, who was identified as Joaquin Bell, was driving a Honda SUV with two of his children in the car when the collision occured. Police say the vehicle was found in a nearby parking lot 800 yards northwest of the crime scene with severe damage to the front end. Bell is said to be held at a $500,000 bail.
According to authorities, the three teenage girls, identified as Andrea Gonzales and twin sisters Lexandra Perez and Lexi Perez, were walking in a crosswalk on East Fairhaven Avenue in Santa Ana when Bell hit them and took off, heading westbound. All three girls were pronounced dead at the scene. A makeshift memorial with flowers, cards, candles and letters was set up over the weekend.
The crash was just one of two Halloween tragedies in Orange County. A 65-year-old man was also killed in a car accident. His four-year-old son was critically wounded and rushed to the hospital.
