Mexican Consulate Rally

Activists rallied in front of the Mexican consulate in Downtown Los Angeles Wedsnesday in response to the abduction of 43 students in September.

Activists rallied in front of the Mexican consulate in Downtown Los Angeles Wedsnesday in response to the abduction of 43 students in September. The rally was held by the Full Rights for Immigrants Coalition calling for search advancement for the students.

The students were last seen at a rest stop in the city on September 27, a full forty days ago, and have not been heard of since. Juan Gutierrez, national chair for the Full Rights for Immigrants Coalition, said the students were arrested by police in Iguala, Guerrero, where the students were scheduled to attend a government protest.

Gutierrez expressed his dissatisfaction with both the Mexican and U.S government for not advancing the search for the students.

Tuesday, Iguala Mayor Jose Luis Abarca and his wife, Maria de los Angeles Pineda were arrested under suspicion of organizing the arrest of the missing students.  However, Guiterrez believes that it was Abarca is only part of the “human rights crime” and many others throughout Mexico.
