Staying Safe this Halloween

Officials reminded kids how to stay safe this Halloween. ATVN's Stassy Olmos reports.

Life-sized stop signs and helmets danced for students at Murchison St. Elementary School Thursday to remind kids how to be safe on Halloween.

The Los Angeles Police Department led the event for faculty members and students to learn about safety issues that may arise on Halloween night. Students learned ways to prevent pedestrian-vehicle accidents, what costume hazards to be aware of and the necessity of parental supervision while trick-or-treating.

Students were told to make sure their costumes are flame-retardant and their masks don’t restrict visibility.  They were also reminded to have their parents check out their candy before eating it.

“In this day and age kids have got to stay safe,” said Senior Lead Officer, Joe Quezada. “It’s a nice time for families and kids and I think that these types of tips are helpful.”
