USG Wants Accessibility for Students With Disabilities
USC Sophomore Zack Wentz and the Undergraduate Student Government are calling for action for students with disabilities.
USG and students Tuesday night voiced their opinions on improving accessibility on campus for students with disabilities. Vice President Rini Sampath and other leaders of USG led the discussion.
Wentz inspired USG to hold the event. It covered building renovations, academic policy, campus athletics and accommodations.
Wentz was paralyzed from the chest down six years ago and is a recipient of the Swim With Mike scholarship. The mission of the scholarship is to “provide financial resources for advanced education that pave the way for physically challenged athletes to overcome their tragedies and realize their full potential.”
While pledging leadership fraternity Delta Omicron Zeta, Wentz was asked to create a presentation about an issue on campus. He chose improving accessibility on campus, and decided to share his passion for finding a resolution with USG.
In a statement on Facebook the USG said it will be taking the comments recieved from students to top level administrators, in order to make changes they feel necessary at USC.
These changes include the push for getting students with disabilities front row seats at the Coliseum for football games, renovating student housing and organizing a basketball game for people in wheelchairs.
