Superintendent Race Most Expensive in California
In an unusual turn of events, this year, the race for Superintendent of Public Instruction in California cost nearly $30 million.
USC's Jesse Unruh Institute Director Dan Schnur said that this much money has never been spent on this kind of race. Usually, the race for governor is ranked the highest in spending.
Despite millions spent on advertising, some voters are still unaware of who the candidates are.
“From what Ive heard, not a lot of people know about the race, so the amount of money they spent is obviously not being well-spent,” said Melanie Franceschini.
The candidates spending more than three times the amount spent in the gubernatorial race are Torlakson and Tuck.
Torlakson and Tuck are both members of the Democratic Party and have competing views on how to make California’s public school system better.
It is now up to voters to choose the new voice for education reform in California.
