The UC System Announces Plan to Increase Tuition
The California school system, University of California (UC), has had a tuition freeze for its students for the past three years, but this year might be the last.
The UC Office of the President, Janet Napolitano, released a statement Thursday proposing a plan to raise tuition by 5 percent over the next five years.
This new tuition hike, said the president, will help cover rising costs and expand the enrollment of California students by 5,000.
For in-state students, tuition could rise to $12,804 for the next academic year. However, according to Napolitano the increase in tuition could be avoided by an increase in school funding by the state.
Students took to social media to voice their opinions.
