USC, UCLA Compete for Water Conservation

Students have until Sunday to participate in the challenge. ATVN's Kim Leoffler has more.

USC’s Environmental Student Assembly teamed up with UCLA’s USAC Facilities Commission and Team Green this week, and used the long-time rivalry to promote water conservation through “The Thirst is Real: UCLA vs. USC” competition.

The rules are simple: USC and UCLA students can take a pledge to reduce water consumption by texting “TROJANS” or “BRUINS” to 77177.

The source behind the pledge is a non-profit organization, Change the Course, that works to put water back into the Colorado River.

According to the company’s website, corporate sponsors donate funds to bring 1,000 gallons of water back to the Colorado River for each pledge that the company receives.

Whichever school receives the most pledges by 11:59 p.m. PST on November 23 will win bragging rights during rivalry week.

ASU’s honors college, Barrett, is also asking its students to take the pledge. “Help us beat UCLA & USC,” says the Facebook invitation.

Let the pledging begin!
