The Story Of A Man's Best Friend
A man in a kilt, on a cross-country walk, arrived in Santa Monica earlier Thursday.
After losing his dog, Malcolm, to cancer in 2006, Luke Robinson decided to raise cancer awareness for four-legged patients by embarking on an “Austin to Boston” walk in 2008.
The success of the walk led Robinson to begin a second walk to raise awareness for the six million dogs diagnosed with cancer every year. The 2,000-mile walk extends from the Canadian border to the Mexican border.
Robinson has been walking since May, accompanied by his dogs Hudson and Indiana, Great Pyrenees—just like Malcolm. Together, Robinson said in a statement that he hopes the trio will raise further awareness for canine cancer research.
Robinson has found success; Tagg, a company that helps owners find lost pets through a GPS to their collars, sponsored the walk last year. Robinson’s activism has also sparked PuppyUp, a 2-mile walk for two million dogs to raise awareness for canine cancer research.
He hopes to reach the Mexican border by Dec. 14th.
