Students 'Walk Out' for Midday Ferguson Protests

More than 40 students showed up at Tommy Trojan to call for action following the Ferguson decision. In South L.A., other protests were held as well. ATVN's Emily Thornburg has the story.

A crowd of about 40 people gathered by Tommy Trojan at 10 a.m. Monday for a walk-out to raise awareness about the Ferguson Grand Jury decision that was announced on Nov. 24.

Morgan Collins, one of the organizers, said the event was held to "show that people can't go on with their daily schedule and life when we have innocent people [being] murdered by police and just pretend that class and homework is normal while this is going on."

While some of the students present walked out of class to attend the protest, others showed up despite not having class.

Leslie Bernsten, one of the student protesters present said, "There are many people at these demonstrations who are just trying to process their emotions in a large group, trying to get some type of confirmation that there are people feeling the same thing."

Even nearby community members showed up in search of that confirmation.

Diego Mossimo, one of the walk-out participants and protesters, was present because he thinks the Ferguson decision "should hearten us to continue to go out there and fight for Ferguson and fight for the people of this city and all across the country."
