Metrolink Train Crash Left 28 Injured In Oxnard

A produce got stuck on the tracks causing the collision early Tuesday morning. ATVN's Kim Leoffler reports.

Police arrested the truck driver on suspicion of felony hit and run late Tuesday afternoon. Oxnard police say the 54-year-old driver was turning right onto Rice Avenue from Fifth Street when his produce truck got stuck on the tracks. Officials don't know whether or not the truck driver's actions were intentional.

A total of 51 people were on board the train. Forty eight of them were passengers and three were employees. Of those 28 were taken to local hospitals. As of Tuesday night, four people were still in critical condition. Ventura County EMS Officer Steve Carroll said of those 28 people 7 have been admitted to the hospital, 13 are still in emergency rooms, and 8 have been released from the hospital.

The NTSB has taken over the investigation. Oxnard police say the intersection should be closed for another 24 hours. Trains are still running between the Moorpark Station and Los Angeles.
