LAPD Reports Increase In Violent Crime
Chief Charlie Beck announced in a police commission meeting Tuesday that violent crime in Los Angeles has increased 26% in 2015. The increase has been attributed in part to the department's improved classification process.
The changes were implemented following an L.A. Times investigation that found that the LAPD had been missclassifying violent crimes as minor offenses. However, it is not clear if the rise in numbers is only a result of the new classification process or if crime in L.A. is actually escalating.
