Prom Day 2015

Homeless and disadvantaged girls across LAUSD recieved free prom dresses, shoes and accessories so they could be included in the senior tradition.

Dozens of high school girls in Los Angeles got to pick out the prom dress of their dreams today. ATVN’s Alexa Liacko shows us why these students got the Cinderella treatment.

More than 80 high school seniors across LA who are either homeless or unable to afford their prom outfits were given everything they needed today. Karen Ibanez is one senior on a mission for the perfect look.

"I felt really good and when I had that dress on I felt like Jennifer Lopez or something," Ibanez said. "I was so excited and I was actually so excited because I felt beautiful inside."

The girls have hundreds of dresses and shoes to choose from that have been collected through donations all throughout the year. Everyone here at Operation School Bell Prom Day says they’re just here to make sure every girl has that Cinderella moment at her prom.

But, it's more than that. Stylist Steven Cojocaru said it's really about heart.

"When you give them a little compliment and you validate them  a little, they shine," Cojocaru said.  "So hopefully we’re giving them a gift that they walk away with-not just fabulous shoes. Something more powerful."

Now, Ibanez is confident and ready to join her friends with a brand new dress and accessories to match.
