Sororities At USC Consider Reform Rules
USC sororities are not allowed to host social events in their houses. But USC’s PanHellenic wants to change those regulations and hopes to reduce incidents of sexual assault. Caroline Cannan, President of USC Panhellenic Council said they are always looking to decrease the risks and increase the safety of sorority members.
The Vice Provost of Student Affairs, Ainsley Carry, says that this is not his decision to make but he supports the reform. In a statement via email he said: " If women would feel safer hosting events in their own sorority houses, then I am supportive of their efforts to establish this as a regular practice.”
Although USC does not prohibits sororities on The Row from allowing alcohol in their houses or allowing men upstairs, each chapter's national office enforces these policies. Cannan said that she will continue meeting with university officials hoping to improve safety of sorority members.
